Analysis on "Poem for some women"

Allusion: Sanchez uses allusion by singing "Mommas little baby, Mommas little baby, Mommas little baby loves shortening bread" Sanchez explains how the mother of the poem tries to comfort her child by singing letting her child know everything would be alright.

Theme: The theme was how strong the mothers crack addiction was how the mother would do anything to get high even give away her own child to be raped by her crack man the love she had for crack defeated the love she had for her daughter.

Figurative Language: Sonia Sanchez compares the daughters eyes to "Puppy dog eyes" when she came back to get her from the crack house.

Tone: The tone was critical the mother knew she was at fault that's why she bought her daughter a leather jacket to think she'd find forgiveness from her daughter.

Final Interpretation: "Poem for some women" Is about a mother who is heavily addicted to crack and she's brings her daughter to the crack house with her to explain why she sometimes is late. The mother has no money to purchase her crack and she tries to have sex with her drug dealer but he refuses for the first time he looks at her daughter and says " I want her, I need a virgin". The mother received the crack and left her daughter 7 year old there for a week. When she came back to get her the mother was very resentful about what she had done she had realize by then she loved her daughter more then the crack by then it was to late.

I enjoyed this poem, it was very deep it goes in detail very well. While listening to this poem I Could visualize everything through out the entire poem. This poem gave me a heart broken feeling I felt bad for the child in the poem.
